The Summer Cup is an aggregate Stableford , the best three to count over five rounds. Both Ladies and Men.
Round 2, 7 January 2012. There was a good field of 36 men and 13 ladies. Probably due to the fact it was our one day of summer. Scores reflected the good conditions with the men being led by Mark Graham with 44 points, following were Ray Morris, George Rink and Bob Bentley 42, Ralph Day and Richard Chapman 41, Jim Harris 40, Oscar Andersen and Toby Hempleman 39, Frank Delaney and Max Baylis 37.
Head of the field for the ladies was Janet Pincock 41, Sue Braiden and Caral Rink 40, Gay Martin 38.
Round 3, 14 January 2012. This Saturday was a different story as the weather once more turned to rubbish and the scores reflected the conditions. Of the 15 men Ash Braggins was first with 34 points, next a little way behind was Oscar Andersen with 31, George Rink and Steve Larsen 30, Hugh Ryan and Peter Woodcock 29.
There were just two ladies brave enough to play, Sue Braiden was first and Yvonne Baylis, you guest it second with 25.
Round 4, 21 January 2012. There were better scores this Saturday. The field of 35 men was split into two divisions. Division One (0-17) Steve Larsen 45, David Wills and Stu Ingham 40, Lyn Evans 39.
Division Two Chris Connor 46, Les Cherry 44, Chris Slaughter and Ralph Day 43, Toby Hempleman and Frank Delaney 41, Dave Pacey 40.
Ladies, Jeanne Taylor and Pam Williams 43, Caral Rink 42, Sue Braiden and Lesley Sadler 38.
Not a great deal to report with the Club being on stand down for the Summer.
The main topic of conversation seems to be the plaque which is being produced to commemorate our Centennial. A cartel of members is involved in the highly secret events surrounding the sighting of the plaque. On asking one of its’ members where things were at, he told me it was on a need to know basis, and if he did tell me he would have to have me killed!!!
Well why spoil a good rumour of you don’t have the truth. From the latrineagraph I am led to understand that the Prime Minister, John Keys will be in attendance and has agreed to hit a ball, bearing his autograph, off the first tee, the ball to be presented as a keepsake to the person who is silly enough to go into the pond to retrieve it. Further rumours have suggested that the Governor General, Lt Gen, The Right Honorable Sir Jerry Mateparae will also be in attendance and is using his influence to try and have 16 Field Regiment RNZA provide a 21 gun salute, and at the same time members of the NZ SAS Sqn will carry out a highly dangerous parachute into water, landing in the pond in front of the first tee.
To provide music for the occasion will be the massed bands of the Masterton Brass Band, The RNZAF Band and the NZ Army Band. Roger Fox was also approached but said he had a prior engagement.
(Any relation to the truth in these rumours is purely accidental and is not supported by the editor of this letter or his staff).
